OVERVIEW

P.S. 53X is an elementary school, in the Morrisania section of the Bronx, which serves Grades Pre-Kindergarten through 5.  Our student enrollment is approximately 1,300.  Our demographics indicate: 60% Hispanics, 30% African American and 10% representative of students from various regions including West Africa, the West Indies, Asia and Europe.  

 

Our school mascot is the panther, which was determined by our students several years ago through an art competition.  Our instructional focus is that of content-driven instruction and evidence-based learning.  The school's aim is to engage students in rigorous instruction and electives which will yield critical thinkers, who are well equipped to thrive in a technologically-advanced 21st century and make a meaningful contribution to society as responsible citizens.  Our aim has emanated from the vision and mission statements.
